Advanced node based compositing tool from Apple. Popular for feature film / 35mm work, although equally capable with standard definition material.
Shake has notably been used on feature films such as Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Star Wars Episode III, Fantastic 4, the Harry Potter movies as well as the Citroën dancing car commercials.
Although it is no longer officially supported by Apple, the source code has been opened up to third party developers, so that it will likely remain a standard at large effects houses. There are also rumours that Shake's functionality is to be incorporated into a new Apple super compositor, codename: Phenomenon
